LCLD Selects 5 Inaugural Ambassadors for the Spring of 2018

Brooke Lopez

Ms. Lopez is a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelors of Science in Public Affairs and minor in Geography. She first sparked a career in local politics and government by working with her local congresswoman to propose a state bill at age 15, founding the 501c(3) non-profit “Student of Change” at age 16, running for Wylie City Council at age 18, and holding appointed office for her hometown on the Wylie Public Arts Advisory Board by the age of 19 as the youngest member. Lopez recently founded the Lone Star Parity Project. Ms. Lopez is employed as a Facilitator for IGNITE National at the Brookhaven ECHS and Skyline HS and an AVID tutor at Plano East Senior High School and plans to attend law school in Fall 2018. Ms. Lopez will be serving in the Latino Center for Leadership Development Ambassador program as an intern in the departments of Development and the Policy Institute.

 

Vanessa Serrano

Ms. Serrano graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Biochemistry, a Bachelor of Arts in Iberian and Latin American Studies, and a certificate in Environment and Sustainability. She is involved with the City of Farmers Branch through two advisory committees: the Sustainability Committee and the Charter Review Committee. Through the Texas Leadership Forum, she founded the Young Leaders Roundtable to discuss pertinent issues in her community. Ms. Serrano currently works as an aide part time at Home Health, part-time as a Grant Analyst for the Meadows Foundation, and attending The University of Texas at Dallas to further her education on healthcare. Ms. Serrano will be serving in the Latino Center for Leadership Development Ambassador program as an intern in the departments of Strategic Initiatives and Development.

 

Leslie Frias

Ms. Frias is currently attending El Centro College to obtain her Associates in Arts. She graduated from Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School in 2016 where she was a member of the League of United Latin American Citizens(LULAC) for three years. In June of 2018, she hopes to transfer to a four- year university to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Public Relations. She has been a volunteer at the North Texas Food Bank, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and Dallas Arboretum for the past five years. Ms. Frias will be serving in the Latino Center for Leadership Development Ambassador program as an intern in the departments of Communications.

 

Azhalia Leal

Ms. Leal is a student at the University of Texas at Dallas and intends to declare a major in Latin American Politics in the Fall. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Ms. Leal is a proud champion of issues relating to her country of origin and its people. Having worked with several Non-Profit Organizations such as the Commit! Partnership and Refugee Services of Texas, Ms. Leal has experience relating to data as well as federal documentation. During her time with the Commit! Partnership, Ms. Leal brewed a passion for data driven policy, especially as it relates to education. While at Refugee Services, Ms. Leal dealt firsthand with the repercussions (positive and negative) of American Foreign Policy. Ms. Leal will be serving in the Latino Center for Leadership Development Ambassador program as an intern in the departments of Strategic Initiatives and Development.

 

Gladis Eudabe

Ms. Eudabe will be graduating from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelors in Arts in Political Science. She was raised in Dallas, Texas where she attended magnet schools in Dallas ISD and started her studies in Accounting and Finance before discovering her passion of helping people. Ms. Gladis has worked as a Bilingual Teacher Assistant for Dallas ISD for four years. She will continue her graduate studies in the fall. In her free time, Gladis enjoys being outdoors and volunteering her time. Gladis is looking forward to developing her potential and build a foundation for her future career. Ms. Eudabe will be serving in the Latino Center for Leadership Development Ambassador program as an intern in the departments of Communications and Strategic Initiatives.
